BBC Radio Player takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what analytics data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What We Collect
When you enable analytics, we collect the following anonymous data:
- Content viewed: Which stations, podcasts, or episodes you play
- Date and time: When you listened (UTC timestamp including time-of-day)
- App version: Which version of the app you're using
- Web player events: When you view or play content via a shared link
What We Do NOT Collect
- Your name or email address
- Your IP address (not stored in database)
- Device identifiers or serial numbers
- How long you listened (session duration)
- Search queries or preferences
- Location data
- Any form of personal information
How We Use Your Data
Analytics data is used exclusively to:
- Understand which stations and podcasts are most popular
- Improve the app experience
- Fix bugs and performance issues
- Make informed decisions about feature development
Your Control
You have complete control over analytics:
- Opt-in: Analytics is disabled by default. You must explicitly enable it.
- Opt-out: You can disable analytics anytime in the app settings.
- Clear data: Clear your browser cookies to reset consent on the web player.
Where Data Is Stored
Analytics data is stored on a private server (Raspberry Pi 4) hosted by the app developer. The server:
- Is accessed only via Tailscale (personal VPN) with HTTPS encryption
- Does not store IP addresses in the analytics database
- Stores timestamps showing when content was played
- Contains no personally identifying information
Data Retention
Analytics events are stored indefinitely as they contain no personal information. You can request data deletion by contacting the developer.
F-Droid Compliance
BBC Radio Player is compliant with F-Droid's privacy and security requirements:
- No non-Free dependencies
- No advertising networks
- No tracking frameworks (Firebase, Google Analytics, etc.)
- No proprietary analytics

Third-Party Services
BBC Radio Player does not use any third-party analytics services. All data collection is self-hosted and owned by the developer.
Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated occasionally. Significant changes will be announced in app release notes. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
